 	I'll fix that right now. I have a G3 iBook (whatever that
means) that I've been running strictly Fedora Core .ppc releases
on ever since they started. The current one is all fouled up --
  for a reason I have guess at -- in several ways. First it
would only run KDE (which, alas!, sets my teeth on edge) ;
then it ran Gnome for a while; now it boots only to command
line, and I have to do startx to get any GUI at all.

 	When I do, running Opera 9.10 (which used to be OK)
freezes it up.

 	I'm ready to wipe it and re-install FC6 -- but I can't
get the fool thing to boot from any CD or DVD I have or can burn.

 	I always did have a nasty time with that. But this time
I'm beginning to think I've developed hardware problems.

 	I try cold booting with the "option" (alt) key held down;
that lets me get to a prompt where I can hit C, and it will say
"booting from CDRom" -- for a minute. Then I get an error
message.

 	I've tried it over and over, with and without the option
key at various points and for various durations. No joy ever,
with any of them.

 	Can somebody tell me a Magic Secret Known Only to Apple
Fanciers? Or do I really have a hardware problem?
