My opinion on the article:
It's hard to take him too seriously as a Journalist when he says his
reasons for not liking the Mac is because it is "mushy"... WTF? A
little inarticulate there... How about a rational justification
rather than just personal emotional feelings? (Not that it is some
sort of sin to dislike the Mac)... This would be like reading a
NYTimes article where the columnist says that the Iraq war "just
feels icky", and therefore we should get out of that country =)
There have been many times in history where Microsoft has copied
Apple, I don't think people will all of a sudden decide that they
don't want their Windows OS to be more Mac-like. In fact, with
Apple's market share and revenue stream growing, this might be all
the more reason for Microsoft to attempt to jump aboard the
bandwagon. For a company of its size with the vast resources it has,
they don't seem to have a great track record of innovating original
ideas, nor do they have to to fulfill their business goals. This is
all nothing new, we've seen this play out before.
As far as companies having secret Linux ports of products, that is
likely... My main beef with his article is his opinion on the
direction of the industry. It seems premature to call Microsoft's
demise, people like him have been doing this for years. I'd love to
see Microsoft demise, but I don't think he can justify this argument
right now, and I expect good justification from somebody in charge of
selling his opinions =)
